Clarks Creek Nature Preserve

Croft Community Elementary School is partnering with the Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation Department to open Clarks Creek Nature Preserve – a gorgeous 98-acre park property across the street. The goal is to install a small parking lot, picnic shelter, signage, benches, trash cans, and play area. The site already has a nice trail system, and some improvements to the trails will be made as well. The nature preserve serves as an excellent outdoor classroom, offering our teachers a nearby site to do hands-on outdoor science and environmental education. The shelter and trail improvements will go a long way towards our educational efforts.  For more info please visit http://charmeck.org/mecklenburg/county/ParkandRec/StewardshipServices/NaturePreserves/Pages/ClarksCreekNaturePreserve.aspx

Starting May 21 will be fundraising via a “Coins for Clarks Creek” campaign.  Students are encouraged to bring in loose change.

Prizes for the Coins for Clarks Creek Drive

1st prize: Free pass to Rays Splash Planet for each student in the class

2nd prize: Free night camping at McDowell Campground (on Lake Wylie with tents and cots included) for each student in the class

3rd prize: Park and Rec Gold card for each student in the class. (can be used for shelter rental, golf, Rays splash planet, raptor center admission, etc.)

The grade level with the most money collected will get a visit from the staff at Reedy Creek Nature Preserve for a live animal nature program.

***Volunteers are needed to help count the change collected throughout the week.  Please contact Darlene Ryan at darlene ncryans@mindspring.com

BLOOD DRIVE

Croft Community will be conducting a second blood drive this year! The blood drive will run on  Thursday, May 31st from 1:30-5:30 . To save a life simply...

1) Go to  www.redcrossblood.org

2) Enter the sponsor code: croftcommunity

3) Sign up for a time slot that fits your schedule

4) You will receive a reminder email prior to the event

As you can imagine, a blood drive is a great way to teach students about community service and involve the entire school community; parents, staff and faculty. Each student who recruits an adult donor will receive a free t shirt. Please pass the word along to friends and family in your neighborhood! If you have questions about signing up please contact Miss Arko @  Kristin.Arko@cms.k12.nc.us
