Waste Free Lunches

Are you tired of constantly buying ziplock bags?  Would you like a reusable lunch box item that you just wrap and go?  This year we have available as a new spirit item, the Wrap-n-Mat.  You can use it for most any lunch item - sandwich, chips, cookies.  It's easy for your child to open and you just wipe it clean for the next day.  We have them in blue or green with the Croft Community School logo on the outside, for $6.  Click the following link to see an example of a Waste Free Lunch

Croft Community School has signed up to be part of the “Clear the Air for Kids!” campaign.
We are one of twelve schools in Mecklenburg County that participates in this program. The “Clear the Air for Kids!” is sponsored by the Carolinas Clean Air Coalition. This program educates school staff, students, parents, and the community about the raising awareness of air pollution and climate change.

If you have noticed a colored flag on our flagpole, this is part of the air quality flag program. Each day a flag will be raised by the fourth grade class to indicate the outdoor air quality. Air quality is a trigger for individuals that suffer from asthma or other respiratory diseases.
There are four different colored flags that will indicate the level of air pollution and the recommended level of outdoor activity.

Green: The air quality is “good” and considered healthy for everyone. Outdoor activities are permitted for everyone.

Yellow: The air outside is “moderate”. Extremely sensitive children and adults suffering from severe asthmatics, respiratory or heart disease should consider limiting prolonged outdoor exertion.

Orange: The air outside is “unhealthy”. Sensitive individuals should limit prolonged exertion and alternative indoor activities should be made available for all students.

Red: The air outside is “unhealthy” for everyone. On red days, sensitive individuals should avoid outdoor activities and alternative indoor activities should be made available for all students.
